Rankin’s program review is code for cuts to programs and services people need

HALIFAX – Children’s dental care, community health boards, provincial parks and Canadian National Institute for the Blind faced funding cuts because of previous Liberal program reviews.

During the CTV roundtable, Iain Rankin said his $209 million in cuts would in part come from a program review on spending. The last time the Liberals conducted a program review they destroyed the film and creative industry, and made deep cuts to not-for-profits that rely on provincial funding to operate.

The last Liberal program review led to funding cuts to organizations that provide services that real people rely on.

Some of those who received cuts include:
  • Canadian National Institute for the Blind
  • Nova Scotia Alzheimer’s Society
  • Eating Disorder Nova Scotia
  • Hope Blooms
  • Be, Think, Feel Aboriginal Mental Health
  • High-Risk Youth Recreation Therapy
  • Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia
  • Canadian Mental Health Association
  • Community Health Boards

Iain Rankin and the Liberals also cancelled the expansion of the Children’s Dental Program which would have expanded oral health coverage for kids, as well as made cuts to provincial parks, nursing homes, and child protection positions.

People remember that programs and services were gutted by Rankin and the Liberals and people have a right to know where the next $209 million in cuts will come from.
