Burrill releases NDP vision for a better Nova Scotia
HALIFAX -- The NDP released its vision document today that outlines the Party’s plan to deliver something better for the people of Nova Scotia.
“While the Rankin Liberals and Houston Conservatives are focused on cuts and short-term promises, the NDP is offering a future that puts the needs of real people front and centre,” said NDP Leader Gary Burrill. “When you vote for the NDP this is the vision of Nova Scotia that you’re voting to support.”
An NDP government will:
- Deliver permanent rent control
- Ensure every employee has 10 paid sick days
- Eliminate before- and after-school child care fees
- Take real action to deal with the climate emergency
- Ensure every resident of long-term care has a room of their own.
- Increase the minimum wage to $15 an hour
- Make sure people can access same-day/next-day mental health care
Burrill was joined by a number of candidates at the Women’s Council House in Halifax. The NDP has nominated 52 candidates, 35 are women or gender diverse, 5 are racialized, 7 are 2SLGBTQ+, 5 are persons with a disability.
“In this election, the NDP is running Nova Scotia’s first province-wide slate with more than 50 per cent of candidates who are women or gender diverse,” said Burrill. “Forty-one years ago, the NDP made history by electing the first woman to lead a major political party in Canada, and in 2017, we made history when we formed a caucus with the largest proportion of women members of any party elected to official party status. We’re ready to make history again.”
Burrill will campaign today in Halifax Citadel, Sackville-Cobequid, and Dartmouth East.
