Time for action on Climate Change

TRURO -- NDP Environment and Climate Change spokesperson Lenore Zann made the following statement about today’s Climate Strike by students across Nova Scotia:

“The continued efforts by students throughout Nova Scotia and around the world are important and we must be listening to them. Elected official and adults everywhere should be paying attention to the message from these young people who are rightly concerned about what their futures look like in the face of climate change.
The IPCC report called on governments of all levels to do the urgent and critical work of moving towards renewable energy sources and planning for mitigation of the effects of climate change that we know are coming.
In Nova Scotia we could start with agreeing to the goals of the 2030 Declaration that would set our greenhouse gas emission targets at 50 percent below 1990 levels by 2030. We need to take real action now, including implementing a Green Jobs Plan to ensure we are prepared for the changing economy.”
