Supporting local is crucial as tariff threat looms: NDP

HALIFAX – The following is a statement from Official Opposition Leader Claudia Chender on the threat of new tariffs:

“Nova Scotians are concerned by the latest threats they’re hearing from the U.S. President. The newest in Trump’s ever-changing list of threats is a 35 per cent tariff on Canadian goods.

The need for action on housing affordability, transportation and child care costs has never been more acute.

As Nova Scotians change their purchasing habits and travel plans, the importance of action to strengthen our local economy is clear. For all of us, this is the best time of year to support our local farmers and food producers.

We are again reminded of the beauty and bounty of our province, and of the need to rely on the traits we have always been known for—resilience, kindness and common sense. We can get through anything together.”
