Statement on Northern Pulp Decision

HALIFAX - The Leader of the Official Opposition Claudia Chender made the following statement about Northern Pulp’s decision to sell its Nova Scotia assets:

“This morning Nova Scotians are waking up to the news that Northern Pulp, whose mill has been an employer for decades in our province, is selling off its assets and will not open a new mill.

New Democrats are thinking of the forestry workers and their families in Queens county and across the Province who will be impacted by Northern Pulp’s decision. With the looming threat of further American tariffs, it’s a difficult time for many of our traditional industries. It’s never been more important for the provincial government to support good, local jobs in our traditional industries like the forestry sector.”
