REALITY CHECK: Houston government breaking all the wrong records
HALIFAX – The Houston government may be breaking new ground – but not in ways that help Nova Scotians.
Instead, the PCs are setting a troubling list of firsts:
- First government to rack up a $1.2 billion deficit;
- First government to spend $1 billion or more outside their own budget each year;
- First government to try firing the Auditor General;
- First government to get a credit rating downgrade in 30 years;
- First government to close the People’s House to the public for more than one day.
“At a time when Nova Scotians are already struggling with the cost of living, this government is making choices that hurt the most vulnerable and leave communities behind. Nova Scotians deserve a government focused on making life more affordable, not setting records for all the wrong reasons,” said NSNDP Leader Claudia Chender. “Tim Houston is ducking responsibility at every turn. He’s making huge decisions they can’t explain, hiding from Nova Scotians, and creating chaos instead of showing leadership. The most vulnerable Nova Scotians are being hit the hardest – and this government has no answers for them.”
New Democrats are calling on the Houston government to pause their disastrous budget and work to seriously understand the impacts of the cuts they’re making.
