Parents and teachers can’t be left in the dark on COVID-19 response in schools

HALIFAX -- NDP Education spokesperson Claudia Chender made the following statement in response to cases of COVID-19 being confirmed in two schools:

“We've heard for months that COVID-19 could make its way into our schools, but now that it has it appears that the Liberal government didn’t properly prepared students, parents, and teachers for that possibility.
The Premier says there is a clear plan in place, but the fact that many parents chose to keep their children home from school yesterday without being directed to by public health indicates that parents don’t feel safe or secure about that plan.
Dozens of families are facing a two week isolation period, and many other families are voluntarily keeping their children home from school. Parents and teachers need support to ensure students don’t fall behind, and our schools need the resources required to follow public health directives in schools.”
