NSNDP Leader statement on Davis Day
NEW WATERFORD –NSNDP Leader Claudia Chender made the following statement on Davis Day:
“One hundred years ago today, William Davis was shot and killed during a strike in Cape Breton by company police. A century later, workers in Nova Scotia are still pushing for stronger workers rights and protections.
As the workers’ party, New Democrats stand shoulder-to-shoulder with all Nova Scotians pushing for better wages, better work conditions and the opportunity to build a better future in the province we love.
As we mark Davis Day – a solemn day of remembrance for William Davis– we recognize all workers who have risked and lost their lives fighting for fairness, dignity, and safety on the job.
It’s an honour to be here in Cape Breton to mark this important occasion and honour an important part of Nova Scotia’s history: Cape Bretoners’ legacy of resilience, strength and defiance in the face of injustice and oppression.
New Democrats will always fight alongside you as we work toward a fairer, safer Nova Scotia.”
