Nova Scotians paying the price for Houston’s cruel and careless cuts: NDP
HALIFAX – Today, Official Opposition Leader Claudia Chender made the following statement on the Houston government’s budget announcement:
“This government is in chaos, and the real harm done by these cruel cuts doesn’t go away with today’s announcement, and the changes still aren’t clear. People have lost their jobs, others are still worried about their livelihoods, and families have been losing sleep for weeks, wondering if the programs they count on will continue.
For weeks, the Premier and his ministers have blamed staff for these cuts, blamed federal funding, denied that disability funding had been cut at all, and ducked and dodged questions. And, just last night, the Finance Minister said he couldn’t predict what would change.
The Houston government ran the province’s finances into the ground with $6.7 billion dollars in out-of-budget spending, and then they told Nova Scotians to pay for it.
Nova Scotians gave this government the benefit of the doubt, but that trust is broken.”
