Nova Scotians need stability in face of Trump tariff: NDP

HALIFAX – Today, NSNDP Leader Claudia Chender made the following statement:

“Once again, Nova Scotians are being forced to reckon with the unpredictable and punitive policies of the U.S. President. The recently announced 35 per cent tariff on Canadian goods outside of the CUSMA free trade agreement will hurt workers, businesses and consumers on both sides of the border.
In a moment when Nova Scotian families are already facing rising costs this added uncertainty creates more concern and frustration. These latest actions show us just how urgently we need to improve our economic resilience and make sure workers and businesses are supported and protected.
Now is the time to invest in what we can control: growing our economy, supporting local jobs and producers and ensuring families can afford the basics like housing, groceries, and child care.
Nova Scotians are resourceful and community-minded – we’ve weathered tough storms before. We will get through this one too.”
