NDP nominates first candidate for next provincial election

FAIRVIEW - The NDP is the first party to nominate a candidate for the next provincial general election. Joanne Hussey was nominated as the NDP candidate in Fairview-Clayton Park at a meeting Tuesday night at the Centennial Arena in Fairview.

“I’m excited to be out knocking on doors again and talking with people in Fairview-Clayton Park,” said Hussey. “People in our community deserve better than a government that does nothing about the healthcare crisis and the rapidly rising cost of housing. We need to make life more affordable for people.”

Hussey ran for the NDP in the 2017 election, placing a strong second. Hussey is a researcher, feminist activist, and former small-businesses owner. She currently works as the Deputy Chief of Staff for the NDP Caucus.

“Joanne’s grasp of issues and policy is matched only by the warmth and respect she has for people,” said NDP Leader Gary Burrill. “Joanne has the courage, commitment and capacity to be a wonderful MLA for Fairview-Clayton Park.”

The NDP represented the former riding of Halifax Fairview from 1993 to 2013.
