NDP Leader visits local business building affordable homes in Pictou County
TRENTON – On Tuesday, Official Opposition Leader Claudia Chender will visit Pictou County and tour the EastCut Wood Building Solutions’ modular housing facilities in Trenton. Chender will meet with the local business to learn more about their role in building homes Nova Scotians can afford while creating good jobs in their community.
“Everyone deserves a fair shot at owning a home, but right now that dream feels out of reach for too many Nova Scotians,” said Chender. “That’s why New Democrats campaigned on and are committed to affordable, efficient building techniques, and creating more pathways to homeownership, including rent-to-own starter homes. With bold action, the right policies, and collaboration with local companies and builders, we can help more people put down roots and build their future here in Nova Scotia.”
Housing is the biggest expense in families’ monthly budgets. Tens of thousands of Nova Scotians are spending more than 30 per cent of their income on housing costs, making it feel impossible for them to save for a home of their own.
“Across the province, Nova Scotians are struggling to find safe, secure, affordable homes. It’s impossible to save for the future, grow your family or start a small business if all of your income goes into keeping a roof over your head. If our province is going to thrive, we urgently need to build homes that people can actually afford to live in. That means supporting innovative builders who are helping us meet this moment with speed and scale,” said Chender. “Companies like EastCut show us what’s possible when we prioritize supporting local businesses and commit to getting more homes built, faster.”
