NDP gets results for people in fall sitting

Halifax - The NDP Caucus focused on meaningful changes to make people’s lives more affordable and to address racism and inequality in our province during the fall legislative session.

New Democrats helped win:

  • A two-year rent cap, helping thousands of people stay in their homes;
  • The creation of an Environmental Racism Commission;
  • A commitment from the government to put an end to the racist street checks loophole;
  • A commitment from the government to put an end to the birth alert system.
“People voted for the NDP to get results that would make their lives better. In this session, we made sure the housing crisis was front and centre. Working with community groups and tenants, we won a two-year rent cap,” said NDP Leader Gary Burrill. “While there is more work to do, people should know that the NDP Caucus will continue to work to make sure every single person has a safe, healthy, and affordable place to live.”

With the cost of living on the rise, people are paying more for groceries, gasoline, and other daily essentials. The Conservative government failed to address the rising cost of living during the session and refused to support the NDP’s plan to move Nova Scotia toward a living wage.

“People can count on the NDP to keep fighting for meaningful change,” said Claudia Chender, NDP House Leader. “With the cost of living increasing rapidly, the NDP will continue to put forward solutions to make life easier and more affordable for people.”

The NDP Caucus introduced 32 pieces of legislation on the environment, health care, and addressing the cost of living and housing.
