Chender: On the National Day of Mourning, we recommit to always putting workers’ safety first

HALIFAX – NDP Leader Claudia Chender made the following statement on the National Day of Mourning:

“Today we pause to remember and honour all Nova Scotians who have died, been injured, or suffered illness in the workplace this year and we recommit ourselves to building a province that always puts the dignity and safety of workers first.
In 2022 there were 24 workplace deaths, an increase from the year before. That’s 24 communities robbed of a friend and neighbour, 24 families with incommensurable loss, and 24 deaths too many.
We gather at Province House to mark this day. This should remind all elected officials that workers are counting on us to ensure that their workplaces are safe and that they return to their homes and loved ones at the end of their shift.”

Coombes: Dignity and safety of workers above all else

SYDNEY – NDP Labour spokesperson Kendra Coombes made the following statement on the National Day of Mourning:

“Today we pause to remember the Nova Scotians who suffered illness, were injured or died in their workplace. And, we recommit to building a province that always puts the dignity and safety of workers above all else.
Last year 24 people died at work in Nova Scotia, a troubling increase from the year before.
As we mark this day each year, it is a reminder that workers across the province are counting on their government and employers to ensure that their workplaces are safe and that they return to their homes each day at the end of their shift.”
