Mary Beth MacDonald to run for NDP in Sydney River-Mira-Louisbourg

SYDNEY RIVER - Mary Beth MacDonald will run for the NDP in the September 3 byelection in Sydney River-Mira-Louisbourg.

“Cape Bretoners need better access to health care services. There is only one Party able to deliver, and that is the NDP. The Liberals are closing hospitals in Cape Breton, and Conservative Leader Tim Houston refuses to say if he will keep the hospitals open,” said MacDonald. “I’m running to make sure Cape Bretoners have access to the health care services they need.”

Mary Beth is currently a homecare worker. She is a lifelong advocate for better funding for mental health and long-term care services in Cape Breton.

“Mary Beth is a long-time advocate for improved health care in Cape Breton, and it’s wonderful that she is stepping up to run for office in the byelection,” said NDP Leader Gary Burrill. “The crisis in health care in Cape Breton can most meaningfully be addressed with the kind of understanding and commitment that are present in Mary Beth.”
