Martin: Westray anniversary a time to remember workers’ safety

HALIFAX-- NDP Labour spokesperson Tammy Martin made the following statement to mark the anniversary of the Westray mining disaster:

“Twenty-seven years ago 26 miners were killed on the job at the Westray mine. For so many it’s a day we’ll never forget and one when we still pause and reflect.

Twenty-six people went to work and never came home. As we remember Westray, we must commit to doing everything possible to ensure that something like this mining disaster never happens again, including improving workplace protections and defending workers’ right to unionize.”
