Long-awaited Action Plan must lead to action for 2SLGBTQIA+ Nova Scotians: NDP

HALIFAX – Today, Lisa Lachance, Official Opposition 2SLGBTQIA+ Affairs Critic, made the following statement in response to the release of the provincial government’s 2SLGBTQIA+ Action Plan:

“Community members have been waiting for this long overdue Action Plan. 2SLGBTQIA+ Nova Scotians have been speaking up for years, asking for the Houston government to address issues that disproportionately affect them, like access to safe housing and employment supports.
Now we need to see real progress. The Houston government needs to commit to ongoing community consultation, timelines for results, and money. Without timelines from the Houston government to meet these commitments, it will be important to keep on top of the promised reporting.
It’s disappointing not to see Guidelines to Support Queer and Trans Students in this plan. Students, parents, and staff have been waiting years for updated guidelines and they deserve to know how trans and gender-diverse students will be safe and supported in our schools.”
