Long-awaited action on affordable childcare welcome

HALIFAX– NDP Education and Early Childhood Development spokesperson Suzy Hansen made the following statement in response to today’s child care announcement:

“Today’s announcement is an historic advancement on affordable, accessible childcare that is the result of decades of campaigning by millions of people across the country. Thank you to all those who have been part of this fight.

The news that more families will be able to access childcare at a more affordable rate will make a huge difference for parents who are facing large increases in costs of food, and other necessities.

As part of this transition, the government must work with operators and child care providers to minimize disruption to the sector and ensure Early Childhood Educators have access to wages and benefits that reflect the importance of the work they do.”
