Leblanc: Eradicating poverty is possible, requires action from government

HALIFAX- Susan Leblanc, NDP Community Services Spokesperson, made the following statement to mark the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty:

“Nova Scotia is the only province in Canada where the child poverty rate has increased. While tens of thousands of people in our province can’t afford nutritious food or a safe and healthy place to live, the Liberal government has done nothing more than pay lip service to poverty.
We need to see real action to improve people's lives, including a $15 minimum wage, investment in affordable rental units, and a social assistance system that doesn’t force people to food banks. Eliminating poverty is possible, but it requires a government prepared to take serious action.”
