Houston's decision to deny support for people living in tents is cruel: NDP

HALIFAX– Today, NSNDP Opportunities and Social Development Critic Lina Hamid made the following statement about the Houston government's decision to deny enhanced income assistance to people living in tents:

“Denying legally mandated support to vulnerable people living in tents is reprehensible. This is a truly cruel decision from the Houston government that will make it even harder for those who desperately need housing in our communities.

Government should be making it easier for people to get out of encampments and into stable housing, yet homelessness has tripled in the last five years— with decisions like this, it’s not hard to see why.”
