Houston government must commit to progress for trans and gender diverse Nova Scotians

HALIFAX –Today, Lisa Lachance, NSNDP Critic for 2SLGBTQIA+ Affairs, made the following statement on Trans Day of Visibility:

“Trans and gender diverse Nova Scotians are concerned about rising hatred and discrimination in our province, and expect action, not just words, from this government. Today, on Trans Day of Visibility, we come together to recognize the strength, resilience, and contributions of transgender and gender diverse Nova Scotians, and to recommit to building a Nova Scotia that is safe, welcoming, and inclusive for all.
To better support trans Nova Scotians, the Houston government should move the 2SLGBTQIA+ Action Plan forward with funding, time-bound goals, and community engagement. They must also ensure the safety of trans students by updating the school Guidelines for Supporting Trans and Gender Diverse Students.
The community needs this government to be more open and accountable and to work with them to build a brighter future for all Nova Scotians.”
