Hansen: Conservative government must act on housing, support people and municipalities

HALIFAX -- NDP Housing spokesperson Suzy Hansen made the following statement on the housing crisis in Nova Scotia:

“Mr. Houston and the Conservative government have been virtually silent on the housing crisis we are seeing across Nova Scotia and especially in the HRM.

While municipal governments are working to address homelessness in our communities, housing is a provincial responsibility and the Conservative government must be a dedicated partner in the work being done to make sure people are housed.

The Conservatives should immediately make rent control permanent to ensure more people are not forced from their homes by massive rent increases, begin to make the investments needed to increase housing options, and provide wrap-around services for municipalities and organizations that are supporting those who are struggling to find housing.”
