Elected officials have to walk-the-walk: NDP

HALIFAX - NDP MLA Lisa Lachance made the following statement:

“It’s disappointing to learn that the premier is not planning to attend the largest provincial pride parade, Halifax Pride, this Saturday, and that the PC Party has not registered to attend.
While the PCs missed the deadline to register for the parade, it’s not too late to join one of the dozens of other organizations, parties, associations and businesses marching on Saturday.
Today, NS New Democrats are inviting the premier and all members of the government to march in Halifax Pride this Saturday because some things are bigger than politics. If we are going to work towards a future without transphobia, biphobia, and homophobia we all need to work together. When it comes to supporting the fundamental human rights of the 2SLGBTQ+ community—all elected leaders should be marching toward the same goal.
Every person in the 2SLGBTQ+ community deserves to know that their government supports our rights and stands with us as we fight for respect and dignity for everyone. 2SLGBTQ+ people still face disproportionate violence, discrimination and harassment. Gender affirming care, social supports and culturally informed mental health resources are still far too difficult for people to access.
At a time when some Conservative politicians in our country use divisive rhetoric and openly attack trans rights for their own selfish gain, it’s crucial to show everyone in the 2SLGBTQ+ community that they’re supported and valued. The bare minimum the premier can do is show up to the parade.”
