Coombes: Workers need a minimum wage they can live on

SYDNEY – NDP Labour spokesperson Kendra Coombes made the following statement in response to the new Minimum Wage Review Committee Report:

“Today’s report is good news for workers and the government should accept these recommendations so that by this time next year, at minimum, workers in Nova Scotia are making $15 an hour.
Families across the province have had a tough year, dealing with the increased costs of food, fuel, and housing. Increasing the minimum wage will help thousands of people who are struggling to make ends meet.
Nova Scotia remains one of the lowest minimum wage jurisdictions in the country and while this increase is welcome we need to be moving forward on a pathway to a living wage.”
