Coombes: Cape Bretoners must work together to defeat COVID-19

New Waterford - Kendra Coombes, NDP MLA for Cape Breton Centre, made the following statement about community spread of COVID-19 in the Cape Breton Regional Municipality:

“Over the last fourteen months, Cape Bretoners have made tremendous sacrifices to keep each other healthy, often without the necessary supports from the Liberal government.

We have stayed home. We’ve worn our masks and stayed apart from our families and friends. In particular, we’ve been apart from parents, grandparents, and other elders.

Cape Bretoners have followed the rules, but Iain Rankin and the Liberals haven’t made it easy. The Liberals have sown confusion about important measures like border controls and expectations for rotational workers, and waited too long to do anything about the many people who are forced to go to work sick because they need the paycheque.

Now that community spread has hit our community, we -- Cape Bretroners -- need to do what we can. I encourage you to get tested at a rapid test site, get vaccinated as soon as you are eligible, stay home if you are unwell, wash your hands and wear your mask. If you need support, regardless of where you live in Cape Breton, please contact our office and we will do our best to help. Together, we can defeat this virus.”
