Conservatives need to provide clear plan for rent control

HALIFAX -- NSNDP Leader Gary Burrill made the following statement on the need for permanent rent control:

“In a recently published interview the Premier suggested that the rent cap won’t be removed as long as the state of emergency is in effect. However, as it is written now, the rent cap is set to expire in just four months, even if the state of emergency is still in place.
Mr. Houston needs to make it plainly clear to everyone what the actual situation is with the temporary rent control provisions. Better yet, the Conservatives need to make rent control permanent so there is no question about where people stand.
It’s getting colder and already too many people can’t find an affordable place to live. We need to make sure those who have a home now, are able to stay put.”
