Colter Simmonds is Ready to Win

Preston – The Preston byelection has been called and Nova Scotia New Democrat candidate Colter Simmonds is ready to win. Election day will be Tuesday, August 8, 2023.

"Since being nominated last month, I’ve had the opportunity to speak with community members from one end of the riding to the other. People are worried about the rising cost of food, healthcare, and housing. While the Tories and Liberals are busy blaming one another about whose fault this is, I’m working to put forward real solutions that help people in Preston,” said Simmonds. "I’m running in honour of those who came before and the ones who look to me. I want the opportunity to serve the people of this district in the House of Assembly. It’s a prime time for a change.”

A lifetime resident of the area and community advocate, he has deep family roots in both North and East Preston. Simmonds is best known as Coach Colter (C.C.) and as the founder of We Will Win Youth Association, an organization that focuses on educating and developing future leaders in the community.

"I know that Colter is a candidate who understands the community’s issues and is ready to work for change. He is the best choice to be the next MLA for Preston," said NDP Leader Claudia Chender. "People in Preston need a representative who is connected to their community, who can speak for them and with them, and who is respected; that’s exactly who Colter is.”

Simmonds was the NDP candidate for Preston during the 2021 general election, running a strong campaign and picking up 28 per cent of the vote. The byelection was triggered by the resignation of Liberal MLA Angela Simmonds.
