Chender: UARB should reject NS Power’s race to the bottom

Halifax - Claudia Chender, NDP Natural Resources and Renewables spokesperson made the following statement in response to Nova Scotia Power’s application to lower its performance standards :

“With daily power outages across the Province, and consistently missed performance standards, we've been aware that Nova Scotia Power needs to improve its reliability. Instead, they continue to charge some of the highest rates in the country for electricity and now want to lower the performance standards further rather than making investments to meet them. This shows a level of disrespect for customers, and disregard for the impact these lower standards would have on residents and small businesses. The Utility and Review Board should reject any attempt to lower them.”

The NDP has previously called for NS Power customers to receive a rebate when the corporation fails to meet its targets for power restoration.
