Chender to speak at NDP Leadership Town Hall in Dartmouth

Halifax - The Nova Scotia NDP will hold a Leadership Town Hall this evening in Dartmouth. Claudia Chender will speak and answer questions from NDP members.

“At this moment in time, more than ever we need to put people first, and we need a government that will take action to help people make ends meet,” said Chender. "As I've spoken to people across the province over the past months, I have heard deep concerns over the rapidly rising cost of living, healthcare, and the viability of towns, villages and municipalities. We've championed these issues in our communities and in the legislature, and we will continue to fight for policies that recognize our common goals for a thriving, sustainable and just Nova Scotia for ourselves, our families, and our children."

Chender, and other members of the NDP Caucus, have worked successfully with the community over the past six years to make gains for people including action on housing, access to reproductive healthcare, provincial paid sick leave programs, increases to the minimum wage, stronger climate change legislation, and anti-racism legislation.

“Claudia's dedication, intelligence and drive will be on full display tonight. She will be an incredible Party Leader and future Premier," said outgoing NDP Leader Gary Burrill. "Claudia will continue to build a strong team from the solid foundation in our Caucus and Party, as well as to bring new voices to the table. Under her leadership the NDP will both advance a progressive agenda and chart a path to government for the NDP in Nova Scotia."

Chender is the only registered candidate and registration closed on May 21. Party members will vote at the NDP Convention and online from June 20-25 to confirm Chender as the Party’s Leader.
