Chender: On the National Day of Mourning, we remember those lost and injured

HALIFAX– NDP Leader Claudia Chender made the following statement ahead of the National Day of Mourning on Sunday:

“On Sunday we will gather to recognize and mourn those Nova Scotians who have died, been injured, or suffered illness in the workplace this year.
In 2023 there were 18 workplace deaths. A decrease from the year before, but even one death is too many. We send our condolences to the friends, family, and community of these workers.
Last month we marked the 20th anniversary of the Westray Law. As we gather across the province to mark the National Day of Mourning, we continue to demand accountability for workers whose lives are endangered or lost.
As legislators we have a responsibility for ensuring that workplaces are safe and that workers return home to their loved ones at the end of every day. We take this opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to the safety and dignity of all workers.”
