Burrill: Truth and Reconciliation Day a moment for reflection and action

HALIFAX-- NDP Leader Gary Burrill made the following statement ahead of the first National Truth and Reconciliation Day tomorrow:

“Tomorrow, Truth and Reconciliation Day will be observed in Nova Scotia for the first time.
On this day, we are all called to be present with the grief and pain of the residential school system – the horrific loss of life, the abuse sustained by countless Indigenous children, and the ongoing trauma of survivors and communities. We are also called to recognize the vibrancy and resilience of Indigenous people in the face of this experience.
It is a time to reflect honestly on the legacies and present realities of colonialism in Canada, and to translate that reflection into action.
The NDP is committed to fulfilling all of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Calls to Action that fall within provincial jurisdiction, and we will hold the Conservative government accountable on this solemn responsibility.”
