Burrill: Liberals paving the road to Emera mega-profits

HALIFAX -- NDP Leader Gary Burrill made the following statement about the news that Emera's profits, especially from Nova Scotia Power, have dramatically increased this quarter:

"While the people of Nova Scotia struggle to pay their power bills, Stephen McNeil's Liberals are making it easier for Emera to make even more profits than before. Last month, the Liberals removed the cap on foreign ownership of Emera. Today, the company has posted a 15 percent quarterly profit increase, over the same period last year.

The Premier is in a kind of economic denial about the household financial pressures being faced by the people of Nova Scotia. The government should be focused on ensuring people can afford to heat their homes and keep their lights on, not on taking orders from a company making millions in profits off the necessities of life."
