Burrill: Liberals’ pattern of secrecy is unacceptable

HALIFAX- NDP Leader Gary Burrill made the following statement on the pending lawsuit regarding the Liberal government’s failure to release information related to the cost of the Yarmouth ferry:

“The Liberals’ refusal to follow the direction of the Freedom of Information Commissioner and share the public costs of the Yarmouth ferry is yet another example of the how obstructive and secretive this government is with public information.

It’s a sad situation when doctors, teachers, civil servants, and now an opposition party, have to go to court over the government's arrogant approach.

The government has quashed debate about the doctors shortage in the Health Committee, curtailed public discussion in the Public Accounts Committee, and refused to release the report they claim justifies the P3 redevelopment of the QEII.

The question of public accountability has drawn the fundamental character and integrity of the government into question.”
