Burrill in CBRM, focus on 2021 COVID-19 recovery

SYDNEY -- NDP Leader Gary Burrill will be in the CBRM today and tomorrow meeting with residents and community leaders to talk about the province’s recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Last week, the final scheduled passenger flight departed from the McCurdy Sydney Airport. That, along with questions of child poverty, infrastructure investments and fiscal fairness for Cape Breton, needs to be addressed by the governing Liberals," said NDP Leader Gary Burrill. "COVID-19 has set the agenda before us, including improvements in long-term care, child care, and care for mental health. It is the responsibility of the government to lay out a big-picture plan to deal with the vulnerabilities and disparities laid bare by the pandemic."

The NDP is calling on the Liberal government to create an economic recovery task force with representatives from environmental organizations, industry and business, labour unions, African Nova Scotian organizations, Mi’kmaq communities, colleges and universities, as well as experts on education and economics, and an MLA from each of the three parties to develop a plan for how Nova Scotia handles the economic recovery from COVID-19.
