Burrill: Action on small-option, accessible housing needed now

HALIFAX -- NDP Leader Gary Burrill made the following statement in response to today’s court decision on Disability Rights Coalition v. Nova Scotia:

“Today’s decision by the court is a victory for these individuals and all those who have been fighting and waiting for accessible housing options in the face of systemic discrimination.
The past Liberal government squandered eight years in which they promised to follow the Roadmap and yet did next to nothing to actually increase the number of homes available for those with intellectual and physical disabilities, who are waiting for housing in the community.
The current Conservative government must, in light of this case, move quickly and fill the need before us. Any further delay would be a continued violation of the human rights of Nova Scotians.”
