BC case upholds importance of public health care

HALIFAX -- NDP Health and Wellness spokesperson Susan Leblanc made the following statement in response to a B.C. Supreme court decision on a private clinic’s challenge of public health care rules.

“This decision is an important moment for public health care in Canada. We have a system based on need and not on ability to pay.

Whether it’s unequal access to medication, physiotherapy, mental health counselling, or user fees at the doctor’s office for sick notes, privatization has crept into our health care system.

Our focus must be on strengthening and expanding public health care, including eliminating user fees, introducing national pharmacare and dental care, and investing in same-day/next-day mental health care.”
