New women’s health care announcement a victory for women: Chender
HALIFAX –Today, Official Opposition Leader Claudia Chender made the following statement in response to the government’s announcement on women’s health:
“Today women in Nova Scotia finally get to hear the Houston government tell the truth about what they’ve been experiencing: they have not had access to the health care they need. Women speaking up about their traumatic and painful experiences have been dismissed and ignored. Women and gender diverse people in this province have been waiting for years for the care they need, and today is a small step forward.
There is a lot of ground to make up. It’s been five years since this government was elected to fix the Liberal neglect of health care. Today Nova Scotian women wait the longest in the country for gynecology surgery, don’t have access to appropriate breast screening for cancer, wait over a year for mammograms, and 70 per cent say that health care is not meeting their needs.
We hope this means a turnaround for women’s health in this province, and we’ll keep pushing the government to take further steps and make sure they fix health care for everyone.”
