Statement by Tammy Martin on IWK CEO Expense Scandal

Former CEO claimed over $47,000 in inappropriate expenses

HALIFAX – NDP Health spokesperson Tammy Martin made the following statement on the expense scandal at the IWK Children’s Hospital:

“Nova Scotians will be very disappointed to discover the former CEO of the IWK claimed more than $47,000 in inappropriate expenses, and that she has not repaid more than $22,000. This kind of behaviour is unacceptable and has no place in our public institutions.

My questions are very simple. What is the Minister of Health and Wellness going to do about this situation? Will the Minister commit to making sure the money is repaid? How will the Minister make sure this does not happen again?

These kinds of incidents undermine faith in our public institutions. Without real action, how can the people of Nova Scotia trust that history won't repeat itself?”
