Nova Scotians need a clear plan on MacKay Bridge replacement: NDP
HALIFAX – Today, NSNDP Leader Claudia Chender made the following statement:
“After years of studies, Nova Scotians still don’t know what the plan is to replace the MacKay bridge, one of the busiest and most important roadways in the province.
Today’s announcement raises important questions about what the Houston government is going to do with the MacKay Bridge, against the backdrop of traffic gridlock, and the PC choice to drop the tolls at a time when revenue is a huge problem. Costly infrastructure projects have to be done carefully and thoughtfully and a growing number of Nova Scotians are losing trust in how this government makes decisions.
This will be one of the largest and most important infrastructure projects in Nova Scotia’s history. People deserve to know when the work will begin, how this government plans to pay for it, what federal funding it’s pursuing, and how it will build a crossing that reduces congestion and supports our region’s growth in the decades ahead.
Commuters are spending way too much time in traffic and, as our region grows, we can’t afford to keep kicking major decisions down the road.”
