Workers' safety needs to be priority

New Waterford -- NDP Labour Spokesperson Tammy Martin made the following statement about recent workplace deaths in Nova Scotia:

“News reports today about the 14 people who died from workplace injuries last year are concerning and need to be addressed by the McNeil Liberals. Not only is that an increase from the year before, but the lack of information available to family members and the public is unacceptable.

Other provinces publish basic information about workplace deaths which helps experts and the public understand problems and trends with workplace safety. The Liberal government should be doing more to ensure people are safe at work and to make sure we learn from any injuries or deaths that do happen.”
