Statement from NDP MLA Tammy Martin

NEW WATERFORD – MLA for Cape Breton Centre Tammy Martin made the following statement today:

“Over the last three years, it has been an honour and a privilege to represent the people of Cape Breton Centre. I have been proud to work with so many people, including doctors, health care workers, municipal leaders, and more, in our fight to keep our hospital open, attract doctors to our community, and tackle the health care crisis across Cape Breton.
So it is with a very heavy heart that I announce that I will be resigning as MLA effective February 6, 2020.
Since the summer, I have been dealing with some ongoing health issues that have not subsided. After discussions with my family, I have made the very difficult decision to step down in order to prioritize my health.
Working alongside NDP Leader Gary Burrill and our NDP Caucus, we have amplified the concerns of Cape Bretoners when it comes to health care and the economy, bringing forward real solutions that could help Cape Breton right now. I am confident that the NDP will continue to be the best voice for Cape Breton.
I ask that you respect my privacy during this difficult time.”

Martin’s constituency office will remain open for the next few months to resolve any open casework files.
