Statement from NDP Leader Gary Burrill on Northern Pulp Environmental Assessment

Halifax -- NDP Leader Gary Burrill made the following statement in response to the Liberal government’s announcement today on the Northern Pulp environmental assessment:

“It should have been plainly apparent to the Liberal government weeks ago that critical information from Northern Pulp was lacking in its focus report. For the Liberals to wait until the last possible day to announce their decision on this matter is yet another example of the failure to accept responsibility we’ve seen from the McNeil government on this question.

Today we still do not know if the Boat Harbour Act deadline of January 31 will be honoured. To leave this question unanswered is grotesquely disrespectful of the thousands of people whose lives and livelihoods are on the line in Pictou County and across the province, not least of all in Pictou Landing First Nation.”
