Statement from NDP Leader on Dexter Portrait Unveiling

HALIFAX -- NDP Leader Gary Burrill made the following statement about today’s portrait unveiling at Province House:

“The first-ever social democratic government in Nova Scotia is an historic and important matter.

Under NDP Premier Darrell Dexter, seniors receiving the Guaranteed Income Supplement no longer had to pay provincial income taxes, the Affordable Living Tax Credit was created, uranium mining and exploration were banned, and collaborative emergency centres were developed to deal with emergency room closures throughout the province.

It is entirely fitting that the first NDP Premier of Nova Scotia be recognized in this way.”
