Martin: New Waterford residents deserve emergency room

New Waterford -- NDP spokesperson for Health and Wellness and MLA for Cape Breton Centre Tammy Martin made the following statement about today's announcements about health care in Cape Breton:

"Any investments in health care in our community are welcome, but at the end of the day, New Waterford and North Sydney are losing emergency rooms and hospital beds.

Just months ago, the McNeil Liberals dismissed Cape Bretoners' pleas about the health care crisis as noise. Now, they want us to embrace their promises on the eve of two local byelections and forget about the hospitals they are about to demolish.

Today, we could be celebrating building a new hospital, but instead, the Liberals are forcing us to give up our emergency room for a new health centre.

I am committed to continue to fight for our emergency room and ensure that Cape Bretoners have access to health care close to home."
