Lara Fawthrop chosen as NDP candidate for Sackville-Cobequid

Halifax -- Lara Fawthrop has won the nomination and will be the NDP candidate for Sackville-Cobequid in the upcoming byelection.

“Today the community of Sackville-Cobequid has chosen an excellent candidate to run under the NDP banner and be their next NDP MLA,” said NDP Leader Gary Burrill. “Lara will be a wonderful addition to our team and brings years of experience working with young people and families in Sackville. She will continue the tradition of strong NDP representation for the people of Sackville-Cobequid, like John Holm and Dave Wilson before her.”

Lara Fawthrop is a teacher with 18 years experience, including ten years teaching Music and English at Sackville High. She has worked directly with the community, parents, families and students while directing musicals, and chairing large fundraisers like the Dance Marathon for the IWK.

“I’m excited about the opportunity to represent the people of Sackville-Cobequid in the Legislature,” said Fawthrop. “My priorities will be making sure everyone in our community has access to the health care they need, and that our kids have the support they need at school and beyond.”

If elected, Lara would be the first woman to represent Sackville-Cobequid. The Premier can call the byelection at any time but it must be called by May 16.
