Lachance: Time for action on 2SLGBTQ+ issues

Halifax - Lisa Lachance, NDP 2SLGBTQ+ Spokesperson, made the following statement to mark May 17, the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia:

“We are proud to raise the Pride Flag at Province House today to mark May 17 and to work towards a world without homophobia, biphobia and transphobia.
There are many steps we could take today in Nova Scotia to address discrimination directed at the 2SLGBTQ+ community. At the moment there is a serious lack of coverage and funding for people seeking gender-affirming care; this needs to change. We also need to see a government Minister appointed to address 2SLGBTQ+ issues, and a multi-year action plan to address gaps in services and spaces.
I urge the province to continue to take action to address the needs of 2SLGBTQ+ people.”

Lachance is the first openly genderqueer MLA in Nova Scotia’s history, and the first-ever genderqueer Deputy Speaker of a provincial legislature in Canada. Lachance will host a flag raising today at 11:30 am at Province House.
