John Morgan nominated as NDP candidate in Glace Bay-Dominion

GLACE BAY - John Morgan, former Mayor of the Cape Breton Regional Municipality, has been officially nominated as the NDP’s candidate in the new district of Glace Bay-Dominion. Morgan was acclaimed as the candidate on July 1.

“I’m excited to join Gary Burrill’s Cape Breton Team. Only the NDP is putting forward solutions that will make life better for people in our communities and I want to be part of the next NDP government,” said Morgan. “Cape Bretoners deserve real action on health care and funding for our region. I helped lead the fight against inequality before and I’m ready to help again.”

Morgan is the second candidate nominated by the NDP for the next election. Joanne Hussey was nominated in Fairview-Clayton Park in February.

"The NDP is prepared to work for the people of Cape Breton--in health care, on inequality, and in the realm of fiscal fairness," said NDP Leader Gary Burrill. "We are immeasurably strengthened in this work with the addition of John Morgan to our team."

Morgan was elected mayor of CBRM in 2000. In 2004 and 2008 he was re-elected with over 80% of the vote.
