Fawthrop ready to stand up for Sackville

Lower Sackville -- The Sackville-Cobequid byelection has been called for June 18 and NDP candidate Lara Fawthrop is ready to stand up for Sackville. The byelection comes after NDP MLA Dave Wilson retired in November, after 15 years of service.

“The people of Sackville need a representative who has their concerns top of mind. That’s what I’m committed to do as MLA for Sackville-Cobequid,” said Fawthrop, who taught English and music at Sackville High for 11 years. “People are being held back by the McNeil government’s refusal to listen to health care workers, teachers, and the community. We can do better.”

Fawthrop is a longtime resident and experienced community builder. She is a teacher, a mom of two boys and daughter of a health care worker. She is a fresh voice and will stand up for the things that matter most to the people of Sackville.

The McNeil Liberals and Houston PCs don’t have a plan to deal with the issues affecting people in Nova Scotia.

“Lara will be an outstanding MLA for Sackville, working to find solutions to the health care crisis and making sure teachers and students have the supports they need in the classroom,” said NDP Leader Gary Burrill. “Sackville-Cobequid deserves a representative with the commitment and enthusiasm of Lara Fawthrop.”

The NDP has represented Sackville-Cobequid for the last 34 years. Fawthrop would be the first woman to represent the riding since its creation in 1978.
