Deputy Chief of Staff - Halifax, NS
The Nova Scotia NDP Caucus seeks a strategic, organized, and experienced individual to work with the Leader and the Caucus. This position is a permanent, full-time position with a variable schedule.

Job Responsibilities & Qualifications: In support of the strategic priorities of the NDP Caucus and under the direction of the Chief of Staff, the Deputy Chief of Staff role will focus on two primary areas – Strategic Planner and Communications Lead.
Strategic Planner
- Develops and implements strategies that are intended to enable the Nova Scotia NDP Caucus to meet its growth objectives.
- Reports to and works with the Chief of Staff on strategic planning.
- Identifies emerging issues and priorities and is able to pivot as needed.
Communications Lead
- Manages a team of media relations and content producers to support the communications & media relations functions of caucus and the Leader.
- Develops and implements communications and media relations strategies and leads on message development, digital media and print production.
- Works with the Leader, MLAs and constituency staff with media inquiries, preparation of communications products (news releases, advertisements, videos, speaking notes, letters to the editor, etc.) and issue management.
- Is a liaison with Caucus members to develop communications priorities.
- As a member of the management team, works collaboratively to develop and communicate the common vision, mission and strategic priorities of the NSNDP to staff, caucus and external stakeholders.
Desired Qualifications:The Deputy Chief of Staff will possess the following qualifications:
- Experience working in a senior role in government, opposition or in media, NGOs, trade unions, non-profit sector, or private sector.
- Minimum of 3 years senior communications or comparable experience.
- Experience working with a unionized staff considered an asset.
- A strategic thinker and project manager with the ability to set priorities.
- Proven ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, for political purposes.
- Ability to lead and motivate a team and to foster a collaborative working environment.
- Candidates must have a familiarity with equity, anti-racism and anti-oppression policy frameworks.
- Sound knowledge of Canadian politics, the Nova Scotian New Democratic Party, its policies, program, and structure.
- Ability to balance multiple competing priorities and demands.
- Ability to maintain the integrity of confidential information.
Compensation:The NDP Caucus offers a competitive salary with cost-shared health, dental, and pension benefits. Salary is $2,923.08 bi-weekly.
