Dark day for Cape Breton economy with last flight to Toronto

SYDNEY -- NDP Cape Breton Centre MLA Kendra Coombes made the following statement about the last scheduled flight at the Sydney airport today:

“As of this morning, there are no flights into or out of the Sydney airport. This is a serious step backwards for our local communities and businesses.

We have two Liberal ministers here in Cape Breton who have waited to act only after these decisions get made. We need to have a serious conversation about the wide-ranging ways that COVID-19 has impacted the Cape Breton economy and what we’re going to do to support recovery.

That’s why the NDP has been pushing for the Liberal government to create a task force that would come up with plans to ensure Cape Bretoners and all Nova Scotians know what to expect as we recover economically from the pandemic.”
